This Baby's Cancer Put Her In Critical Condition Last Night, She Just Has Hours To Start Treatment

Mayuri felt it first. Pain that was unfamiliar, unbearable. She tried to tell her mother but she was not able to talk. Her throat felt constricted as if the walls had closed in. She was not able to breathe. She felt hot. She began crying. Vanu felt her daughter's forehead. She was burning up. By the time they got to the doctor, Mayuri's condition turned critical.

"My husband and I work on a farm together. In a year, we make Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 depending on the harvest. You may think this is a very small amount to earn but we come from a very small town and we can live comfortably on this. We never needed more, until now. We never realized that it could cost our daughter's life." - Vanu (Mother)

This family does not understand cancer

Mayuri, Bahadur and Vanu are from a small town, Khamgaon, where she would play under the shade of a tree as her parents toiled on the farmland. Last week was the first time they strayed from the daily routine as Mayuri had a slight fever. Soon her face and throat began swelling up. Within hours she was critical and the local doctor directed the family to Mumbai.

“We travelled all night with Mayuri on my lap, suffering from pain. She did not sleep. She was crying so much I don't think anyone slept in the bus. I did not understand when the doctor said she has a problem. I still don't understand what chemotherapy is. I do know she will die without it." - Vanu

Just a few hours left to start this treatment and still no money

Mayuri has blood cancer. It is extremely aggressive. The family had to arrange Rs. 5 Lakhs for her treatment. Apprehensive about the rising medical bills, the family began borrowing from relatives. Along with their savings, they were able to fund Rs. 40,000. Time was not on their side.

"Yesterday night, Mayuri became serious. The doctor has told we don't have much time. We have to start treatment now so she has a good chance to be healthy again. We never thought that the money we earn is not enough until now. We used to say money cannot buy happiness, but in this case, it will. It will save our Mayuri. She is our happiness." - Vanu

Only you can save Mayuri

Mayuri is a very cheerful person, she loves talking to people in her broken words. She spreads happiness whenever she is around. She entertains the farm laborers all day long. Now, she is squirming in pain on the hospital bed, confused about what is happening and afraid that she will not see her parents again.

“I try to be positive around her, but sometimes, I fall low on hope too. The doctors say we have to start treatment now, or Mayuri will not survive. Even if she does not understand this disease, she is feeling it inside. She is scared to let me or Vanu get up from that bed. She feels she won't see us again.” - Bahadur

At first, the family thought they had a month. Since last night, Mayuri's condition is deteriorating. There is not much time left to start treatment.
