With No Support From Alcoholic Husband, Mother Struggles On Her Own To Save Baby Who Is In A Critical Condition

“I have always wanted to be a mother. I prayed to God for years before he granted me this wish and thanks to him, I had twins. But they were not born healthy, and one of them passed away a few days ago. My only surviving baby is also holding on to life by a thread.” - Muskaan, mother.

Muskaan is alone in her fight to save her baby boy, who was born almost a month ago. Her husband, a chronic alcoholic, does not give her financial nor moral support. He does not realise his role as a father, and Muskaan, despite her own health issues, is left to manage everything on her own.

Muskaan’s baby boy, whom she has named Tek Singh, is suffering from multiple health issues. He was born with a hole in his heart, which has contributed to heart failure. A severe blood infection also threatens to shut down all his vital organs, one by one. Only prolonged NICU support can keep him alive, but his mother has already run out of all options to finance his treatment.

‘Both my boys were doing so well… I don’t know who cast an evil eye on our happiness’

When Muskaan came to know that she had given birth to twin boys in the labour room, her happiness knew no bounds. Finally, she thought, she would have someone to care for and look after her in her old age. She began imagining a life filled with joy, after all the unpleasant experiences she had endured till then. Everything was going well in the days after their birth, until both children started falling sick often.

They were not gaining weight. They would cough continuously and not suckle milk. It looked like breathing had become very difficult for them. That is when we rushed them to the hospital. Unfortunately, I could not save Tek’s brother. But Tek has been fighting for his life in the ICU for the last 20 days, and all I can do is pray for God to give him back to me.” - Muskaan.

‘My husband spends all his wages on alcohol, and I cannot save my child on my meagre earnings’

Muskaan’s husband works in a factory and earns enough to feed and take care of his family. But sadly, he spends everything on alcohol to satisfy his addiction. He is always drunk and has trouble understanding what his wife and child are going through. Muskaan, being a new mother, should be resting and taking care of herself. But instead she toils in other people’s farms to make Rs 200 a day, without which she will starve.

“With this money, how will I save my son? The ICU charges are very high, and I am not able to take out loans anymore. I am not educated and have no contacts. Please help me. Please.” - Muskaan, tearfully.
