This Fisherman Will Have To Stop His Son's Cancer Treatment Midway Without Funds

In this hospital room, you can hear murmuring about football, cycling, swimming in the lake and karate. This is the list of activities that 13-year old Soumyashish wishes to do once he is cancer-free, unaware that if his parents can't gather 7 lakhs by next week, this might remain an unfulfilled dream.

His leg injury turned out to be cancer

Soumyashish once had a small accident where he fell from his cycle and hurt his leg. From then on, he started experiencing excruciating pain in his left leg. Things got worse when his parents realized that what they thought to be a pain out of injury was actually the pain of a cancerous tumour in his bone. The cells responsible for bone growth in the body had unfortunately formed a tumour in his leg instead.

"One day after my husband's surgery for kidney stones, the doctor visited him for a check-up at home. It is then when he saw Soumyashis's leg and told us to run a few tests because of the unusual swelling. My son has always been mischievous and kept bruising himself every now and then. We thought this to be the same but never in our worst dreams could we imagine that this time it would actually turn out to be cancer."- Mousumi, mother

Every day he prays to Goddess Kali to take away his cancer pain

Soumya's bone cancer was detected at Stage 2 and by then just chemotherapy wasn't enough for him. He had to undergo limb-sparing surgery. He still needs further chemo to completely destroy all the cancer cells in the leg. For this, he requires 7 lakhs which these parents can't afford and if his treatment is stopped mid-way, he might suffer from a relapse.

"When my friends send me videos of them playing football without me, it upsets me. They keep asking me when will I join them but I have no answers to that. Every day Ma and Baba lie to me that this will be my last hospital visit but it's been months now. I wonder if Ma Kali is punishing me with this cancer pain for being naughty because it hurts a lot. I promise I'll never be naughty again."- Soumyashish

Soumya who has always been active in sports and Karate has been bed-ridden since months now

He sells fishes but it isn't enough to pay his son's medical bills

Sanjib, Soumya's father, is a fisherman. He daily sets out to fish at 3am and only if he manages to catch some, he is able to sell and earn that day. After surgery, Soumya is physically dependent on Sanjib to move from his bed as he can't afford a wheelchair for his son. It is becoming extremely difficult for Sanjib to be able to fend for his family as he is already under a debt taken for Soumya's surgery.

"I had thought my son would recover after the surgery but he still needs more treatment. I owe 6 lakhs to people already and I don't know how I will continue. My wife is unable to support Soumya alone when he needs to use the washroom so I have to be with him 24x7. I wish I could afford the wheelchair for him but since I can't I'm unable to go for fishing. I feel guilty for making him travel to hospital for such long journeys in public transport because I can't afford the ambulance for his commute. But what makes me scared the most is losing my son to this disease. "- Sanjib, father

Sanjib and Mousumi are under immense stress because even after coming so close to Soumya's treatment, they still can't rid him of cancer if they fail to arrange the remaining funds. His chemo needs to start by next week otherwise his cancer can spread.

Please come forward to help Soumyashish to afford his chemo and beat cancer.
