Shopkeeper's 7-year-Old Is Living On Borrowed Time Without An Urgent Transplant

Every time Rajkumar looks at his daughter’s innocent face, he can’t hide his tears. He breaks down completely - he gets angry at his own helplessness. While she is fighting a dangerous blood disease, he can do nothing that can take away her pain.

“My wife, Rupa, scolds me. She tells me that I should be strong in front of Sherya. But how can I be strong when I see her going through so much pain? I am living on borrowed money and my daughter is surviving on borrowed time. She needs a bone marrow transplant and the delay is only making her critical,” - Rajkumar, father.

No one could tell us what was wrong with our child

7-year-old Sherya has thalassemia - her blood has lower-than-normal amounts of hemoglobin. The permanent cure for this a bone marrow transplant and her father is a matched donor. ‘When did you know that your daughter was suffering from this disease’ - Rajkumar can’t hold back his tears if you ask him this question. He wishes he knew about Sherya’s condition before.

“Just two months ago, the doctors in Chennai told us that her disease was this serious. Sherya has been sick for the last few years - fever, loose motion, vomiting. But no one could tell her what was wrong with her. Every month, she needed blood transfusions - we thought that is her only cure,” - Rupa, mother.

But two months ago, Sherya could hardly get up from her bed. The pain in her body was too much for the little one to bear. The parents didn’t waste a single minute and brought her to Chennai in the hope of better treatment.

Her new school uniform awaits little Sherya

Sherya is too small to understand the severity of her disease. She doesn’t understand why her father cries so much these days. She is not happy staying in the small rented place in Chennai, she misses her 2-year-old sister Ragini but knows all this is just temporary.

“I don’t have the heart to tell her otherwise. She had gone to her new class for just one day - the next day we had to leave for Chennai. Her school principal gave us Rs 90,000 and asked us to get her treated. Hardly anything is left of that money now - how will I afford the 15 lakh transplant that will save her life?’ - Rajkumar.

You are my only hope - please help me

Rajkumar works in a small shop in Jharkhand and makes around Rs 12,000. He can’t save even a single rupee from that - every month, he has been spending over Rs 4000 on Sherya’s treatment, besides their daily needs. Rajkumar can never arrange for the huge sum of money if he doesn’t get help. The desperate father spends sleepless nights thinking that he will lose his daughter - you can help him.

With your support, 7-year-old Sherya can live a healthy life
