From a bowel disease in 2018 to Acute Jaundice in 2021, a looming fear of losing their son every day has been haunting these parents for the past 3 years. In 2021, he fell unconscious and had to skip his Board Examinations because of excess water in his body.
"His lungs were filled with water and they needed 12 albumin injections to drain out the excess water from his body. His stomach kept on distending whereas in reality he shrank to 13kgs only. His organs were under immense pressure and he had to be hospitalized for 15 days. I still don't know what went wrong suddenly because for the past 5 months, we were cautious with giving him timely medicines for Jaundice. From that day onwards, he can't move on his own and is bound to a wheelchair."- Munmun, mother
Sudden news of their son's failed liver has shattered these parentsMunmun and Supravat decided to take their son to Chennai for further treatment in January 2022. That's when another tragedy struck, where upon reaching the hospital they found out that their son's Jaundice was because his Liver had failed. The news of their son's End Stage Liver Disease at a young age of 18 sent chills down these parents' spine. With no money left, they were unable to bear the cost of rent in Chennai and had to travel back to West Bengal with Sarbadarshi falling sick again during the tedious train journey.
"All along we were thinking his Jaundice is curable but we were so wrong. Every single day, we are reminded of how my son's body is running merely on medicines with no respite. His condition is worsening and a Transplant is the only solution left now. It terrifies me to even imagine what will happen if his body gives up before we can arrange 25 lakhs for his surgery?"- Supravat, father
Along with a liver disease, he is grappling with a bowel disease tooThings went downhill from 2018 with Sarbadarshi grappling with severe health conditions, one after the other. In 2018, it was the first time he spotted blood in his stool. His abdomen pain got triggered by an infection in his colon and soon he was detected with a chronic bowel disease called Ulcerative Colitis. Under complete medication for 3 years, this condition is still not under control. Now, he poses a risk of colon cancer if this condition aggravates further. Constant nausea, fatigue and diarrhea have taken a toll on his mental health too.
Born on Independence Day, this teenager's patriotism is appreciableAn ardent Virat Kohli fan, Sarbadarshi grew up playing cricket yet if you ask him what he wishes to be when he grows up, he would immediately respond - a fighter pilot. It is no coincidence that a patriotic boy like him was born on 15th August, on Independence Day.
"The pain of my broken dream is more than this disease could bring upon me. The only thought that flashes in front of my eyes, is of seeing myself in the Air Force and serving my nation...but when reality strikes, I shiver in anxiety for being bound to this wheelchair till I live. Even that may not be for long without my transplant."- Sarbadarshi
He has never missed hoisting a flag in his colony, making sure all his neighbours attend it. To see such a young boy suffer so much pains all his well-wishers. Supravat, being a farmer, has already spent close to 8 lakhs from selling off his land and wife's ornaments. His mother is his donor but the only thing stopping them now from getting this Transplant is not having 25 lakhs for it. After a constant struggle of 3 years to save their son, these parents will crumble if they lose him now.
