Damaged Liver Is Causing Fluid Build-Up In 1-Year-Old's Belly, Transplant Is His Only Shot At Survival

“When the fluid gets accumulated in his tummy, it must be removed soon. Or else my baby suffers all day and all night – he doesn’t eat anything; he cannot sleep, and the worst part is that he cannot even move his body properly. His cries haunt us… They remind us of how helpless we are.” - Bhavika, mother

Baby Rudransh is only over a year old, but he is already facing the toughest battle of his life – the battle for survival after his liver became 100% damaged. Now, his liver has lost all function and is contributing to accumulation of infected fluid in his tummy. The only cure for Rudransh is a liver transplant, but it is completely beyond the reach of his poor parents.

‘He hasn’t had a proper morsel of food in months’

Baby Rudransh was not born with any visible defects and did not suffer from any significant problems until he turned 5 months old. It is at that mark that his parents noticed that he had frequent loose motions and that the milk that he drank was not getting digested properly and giving him nutrition. Things did not get better when he switched to solid food either. He had frequent loose motions too.

“We took him to local doctors in our hometown in Nagpur who gave us some medicines. But none of those worked. His tummy started swelling up unusually and that is when we rushed him to Pune, and learnt the truth of his liver damage. Now, there is no option except getting him an urgent liver transplant.” - Rakesh, father.

‘We have depleted our savings, his treatment is beyond our capacity’

Baby Rudransh’s father, Rakesh, is the only breadwinner of his family, consisting of his elderly parents, wife and two children. He works as a contract labourer and earns less than Rs 18,000 per month. He does not own a house, nor ancestral property. When his baby got sick. Rakesh had to break open all his small fixed deposits –  small amounts of money that he had been saving up for his children’s bright future – to pay for treatment expenses. Now, he finds himself completely out of funds, and in a very bad position, both mentally and financially.

“Being poor is such a curse. Especially when you have no other choice than to fold your hands and beg someone to help save your child. I am begging you to save my son before it is too late. I have no options left.” - Rakesh.
