“Parents have so many dreams for their children. They want them to grow up and do wonderful things. But all we want is for them to stay alive and healthy. There’s absolutely nothing more we pray for each day. But it seems an impossible dream as our son Pritish is fighting a dangerous disease that can kill him and there’s no way we can save him.” - Amit and Kiran, Pritish’s parents
He started vomiting blood13-year-old Pritish was never a healthy child, he frequently fell sick and no one knew the reason why. Every time he had a fever, local doctors prescribed medicines and he would get better. He was very active otherwise, he would go to school and play with his friends, but in 2017 he was not just sick, he vomited a lot of blood, and everything changed after that.
Pritish was diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis, a chronic liver disease. For almost 4 years, this child underwent numerous tests and treatments but nothing could cure him. Now, only a liver transplant can save his life.
He just wants to go home and live a normal life again
“Our parents, back in our village, are pushing themselves to go to work every day, struggling to gather each rupee but they are heartbroken and scared. I can hear the sadness, the helplessness in their voice when they call to check on us. They stayed back in the village hoping to gather finances for the treatment, but the cost is just beyond our means. I don’t know what to tell them when they ask me about Pritish. He is old enough to understand everything. He sits silent and cries at times thinking about his condition. He just wants to go home and live a normal life again…” -Nitish, elder brother
They live like outsiders in their own villageTheir parents are daily wage labourers who live hand to mouth. To save their son, they sold their land, their house and took loans; now, they live like outsiders in their own village. As if the sickness of one child was not enough, Nitish is sick too. He suffers from a rare disease known as Non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis. He vomits blood too and it scares him to the core, but he is trying to stay strong for his brother.
“We are far away from home, living on our own. We can’t go back even for a day or two as Pritish’s condition is very critical. Whenever he vomits blood it feels like he is about to die, it is so much blood and I have to rush him to the hospital immediately. I just want him to get better soon. It is so painful to watch him suffer like this.” - Nitish
Pritish has turned very weak and pale. He has lost his appetite and gets breathless at the slightest of activities.
Only a transplant can relieve him of his pain and give him a second chance at life.
