It’s been a month since Gouri has been undergoing treatment for blood cancer. Away from her home and familiar environment, Gouri has not had a peaceful night’s sleep. She is in pain and wakes up every 10-15 mins. Sanjana stays up the whole night to take care of her baby girl.
“She is so scared of the injections. She hates it here in the hospital. She keeps asking me when I can take her home. Only if I knew the answer to that. The doctors have told us that she needs another 6 months of treatment. But will we be able to afford that?” - Sanjana, mother.
I am a sweeper, my earnings - they can never be enough to treat my daughter
Sandeep works as a sweeper in a small factory. He gets a meager amount of Rs 6000 per month. The sole earning member of his family, Sandeep takes care of everyone - from his ailing parents’ medicine, to his elder daughter’s school fees. Sandeep has hardly had any savings.
“I had some Rs 10,000 - I used it all up. I borrowed from my friends but there wasn’t really much they could spare. I would need around 5 lakhs to save my Gouri. You’re the only one who can help me now, “ - Sandeep.
