Even After Working Extra Hours, This Father Fears He Won’t Be Able To Save His Newborn

“I can’t concentrate on my work, all I think about is my child. I don’t want to, but all these bad thoughts keep crossing my mind. Is he okay? What if he…” - Akbar

Baby Phool is suffering from life threatening pneumonia. His lungs are constantly filled with water and he can’t breath without struggling. He has severe infections which can damage multiple organ systems. He needs to stay in NICU for at least 2-3 weeks to survive.

Skipping work is not an option for me

Akbar works as a daily wage labourer. He loads and unloads heavy material from trucks. He works more than he can bear to earn that extra penny. His body aches from the extra work but he has no other choice - every rupee is so important to save his son right now.

“But 5 lakhs? I just can’t. I am trying to do whatever I can but it will never be enough...”- Akbar

I can’t call my husband, I can’t call home

“We can’t afford another phone, only my husband has one. He has to go to work but I can’t call him if something bad happens, neither can I call home to check on my other two children who are alone. I worry about each one of them all day,” - Ishrat

The entire family is struggling with their own emotional battles. They just want everything to go back to normal but they might lose Phool. They can’t afford the treatment he needs. It is way beyond their capabilities.

"When Akbar comes to visit Phool, he just lifts him up and holds him for hours. It's very painful to watch when he has to leave." - Ishrat
