“Sometimes, when we have to stay in the hospital for 5 days at a stretch, he gets so irritated and angry. He hates staying within the four walls of the hospital. He has always been an active child, running around the house, sometimes, even breaking window panes and getting scolded for that. For someone like Mahir to stay in the bed, all weak and tired - it just breaks my heart,” - Matshura, mother.
For the last few months, Matshura has been praying to God to bring back her naughty son. She is ready to listen to hundreds of complaints but she can’t imagine that her 7-year-old is fighting cancer. He needs surgery in the next 3 days for a growing tumour in his arm.
He broke his arm while playing - how did it turn into cancer?Little Mahir loved school but more than that he loved his playtime with his friends. His favourite game was climbing the trees and often he used to return home with small cuts and bruises. So when three months ago, Mahir came home with a broken arm, his parents, Amirul and Matshura, were worried but they had no idea that this was just the beginning of a nightmare for them.
“They plastered his right hand, we thought he would soon be better. But even after the plaster was taken out, there was a swelling in his right hand. We took him to the doctor, he immediately ordered an MRI. The test result shocked us. They said he has cancer! How was that possible?” - Amirul, father.
Even after 6 chemos, Mahir needs an urgent surgeryA security guard by profession, Amirul has scrambled for money to start his son’s treatment. He has borrowed from his employers and his friends and has somehow arranged for the 5 lakhs that was required for Mahir’s chemotherapy.
“But the doctors have said that he needs surgery in the next 3 days. That’s the only way he can be rid of this dangerous disease. But the surgery would cost me around 5 lakhs, how will I arrange for so much and in so less time. Mahir has no clue, he just wants to go back home. I look at his innocent face and fear that I won’t be able to bring him back home,” - Amirul.
7-year-old Mahir is suffering from bone cancer but a surgery in 3 days can cure him. But his father is too poor to afford it. Even a small contribution from your side can save this little boy’s life.
