This BMTC Bus Conductor Is Running Out Of Time To Save His 2-Year-Old’s Life

After being on ventilator support in the ICU, for 3 long weeks, Mahika is trying to breathe on her own now. This is a huge progress for her. But Mahika hasn’t opened her eyes yet, she can’t fully breathe on her own and she can become critical at any moment.

“It’s almost been a month since she’s been sick. All our lives have come to standstill. Mahika was so talkative. There was never a dull moment with her around. Rhymes, stories… now we haven’t heard her voice for weeks. The last thing she told me was ‘appa…I’m very tired…’ she closed her eyes to rest and hasn’t opened it since.” – Sathish , father

Little Mahika has pneumonia. One week of high fever and severe cough made her so weak that she couldn’t even sit up on her own. Now she needs to stay in the ICU for longer to survive.

We don’t even know what day of the week it is anymore

Sathish works as a bus conductor with BMTC and Sashikala works as a staffing nurse on a contract basis. Work is not regular and the income is low. Under these conditions, they still managed to spend their days in happiness – only because of their two children. They didn’t have much, but at least they had their children, a future to look forward to for them. Now it feels like they have nothing.

“My younger son is back in our village with our relatives, our daughter is here…just lying here..we sleep on the chairs in the waiting room, sometimes on the floor. We don’t even know what day of the week it is anymore.”

I have to stay strong for Mahika, when she wakes up I don't want her to see me like this

Sashikala has done her best to stay strong all this while. When you ask her about Mahika her voice staggers, but she doesn’t cry. She doesn’t cry because she knows she has to stay strong for Mahika. What if she wakes up and sees her crying?

“We have hope…we know that she can be saved. But the treatment is beyond our means. We’ve spent 4 lakhs already. I hardly earn Rs. 7,000 per month, my husband, Rs. 20,000...all that we have saved is used. We haven’t gone for work ever since Mahika fell sick. We haven’t gone back home.” - Sashikala

Mahika is only 2. Her 3rd birthday is in a few days. This year, there will be no balloons or cake. No celebrations. Just her parents praying that she makes it out of this misery. Mahika needs your help.
