Despite All Odds, This Single Mother Fights To Save Her Son From A Failing Heart

My life starts and ends with my 13-year-old son Hritam. He is all I have. My husband left us a few years ago and I have no idea where he is now or why he abandoned us. He knew about our son’s condition as Hritam was born with a defect in his heart, but he still left. Hritam was fine until a year ago, the medicines were helping. Now his heart is giving up on him. He needs a surgery soon, but I just can’t afford it.” – Ranitha, mother

She struggles to raise him alone with a low-income job

Hritam is a gifted child with many talents. He plays the guitar, loves swimming, and can solve the Rubik's cube in no time. Ranitha is very proud of her son’s achievement in academics as well. Ranitha’s world revolves around her son who means everything to her. She struggles to raise him alone with a low-income job.

I work as a receptionist in a private company in Mumbai. I earn Rs. 5000 in a month which is hardly enough to take care of my family’s basic needs. My father and my employers are my only support. The company management has helped with my son’s education and also medical expenses for the past 1 year. Now, however, Hritam needs to undergo surgery as soon as possible to survive. I need help and don’t know whom to ask. Everyone has already done all they could.” – Ranitha Saha, Mother

Hritam needs to undergo a cardiac surgery called Ross Procedure which is a method of replacing his defective aortic valve with his own pulmonary valve. It is a very complicated surgery and costs about 3-4 Lakh Rupees. With the success of this surgery, Hritam can again lead a normal life and achieve all his dreams.

I have never seen my mother cry before this

“I am in class 7 and I like my school life. I miss playing the guitar and cricket the most. The doctor has said not to strain my body before the surgery. I wish I can get back to my normal life soon. I have never seen my mother's cry before this. She was strong always. Now, she cries often because of meI really don’t like it. Back home, my grandfather looks after me when my mother is at work.” – Hritam Saha

Ranitha is desperate to arrange funds to save her son, he is getting weaker with every passing day. Ranitha begs for any help that one can provide. Your contribution can save a bright child and help him lead a healthy life.
