“Our relatives keep telling us – ‘why are you trying to save him? He is not normal anyway and not going to be of any use to you’. As a mother, these words hurt me, but I don’t pay any attention to them. I want to save my poor child. He does not deserve this pain and suffering.” - Lavanya, mother12-year-old Hanish is a special needs child. He cannot talk or behave like normal children. He can only point to things he needs and expects his mother to understand what he is asking for exactly. He can only say two words – ‘Amma’ and ‘Appa’. Currently, he is in the ICU unconscious and weak, fighting a very severe blood infection that has affected his lungs, heart and even kidneys. Without treatment, he will not survive.
Hanish’s life has been a series of unfortunate eventsWithin a few days after Hanish’s birth, he was diagnosed with a gall bladder issue for which he needed surgery at just 45 days. His parents were told that he had a heart problem too. He did not hit his developmental milestones like normal, healthy children do – he started walking when he was 3 years old and spoke his first word when he was 5. He even got seizures regularly, which meant that he stayed at home with his mother most of the time.
“A few days ago, he was having a seizure when he hit his jaw on the ground and injured himself. Multiple teeth were broken. We were planning to get a surgery for his jaw when he got this infection somehow, and had to be rushed to the ICU. He has been unconscious ever since.” - Lavanya, tearfully.
‘I lost my regular job during the pandemic…I am completely helpless’Hanish’s parents, Lavanya and Prakash Raj, have gone through many obstacles to keep him alive till now. Even though it was stressful, they did everything to help him as they love him more than anything. But now, their financial difficulties are overwhelming them, and are seeking help to save their son.
“I used to have a regular job in a printing office before the pandemic. Due to the lockdown, I lost it. Now I train animals in a kennel. I do not make enough money to cover my child’s medical expenses. Please help me save Hanish. He needs your love and support.”- Prakash Raj
