This 1-Year-Old Has Diabetes And Needs 5 Injections Every Day To Survive

Spend a day with Dhiraj and you will see how much pain she goes through in just 24 hours. She is barely 1 and needs 5 insulin injections every day to survive. She cries all the time, she doesn’t understand why this is happening to her. Her blood sugar needs to be checked and she can’t eat what she wants. This was not the life Jyotsna and Praveen had dreamed for their baby girl.

Dhiraj is barely 1 and she has diabetes.

Every 2 weeks, Jyotsna and Praveen take baby Dhiraj to the hospital. But now, even affording a bus ticket as become difficult for them. They have already spent Rs. 45,000 on her treatment till now

I’m only a labourer, how much will I earn? Hardly Rs. 300 a day. But I have to spend Rs. 600 every day to keep her alive…to afford her medicines. I have borrowed from so many people. Now I just can’t continue her treatment for a day longer.” - Praveen, father

Dhiraj has diabetic ketoacidosis - a complication where the body can’t produce insulin (a hormone which regulates the body’s blood sugar levels). This leads to high blood sugar levels and the body produces blood acids or ketones. The disease can turn fatal – her organs will start shutting down without treatment.

Dhiraj has never known a happy childhood so far. Her future is uncertain if her poor parents don’t find a way to get her treated. They have borrowed, sold the little gold they had – but nothing is enough.

“Sometimes I wonder what we have done to deserve this. She’s so small and she’s been through so much.”

The little one needs your help to continue getting the treatment that’s keeping her alive. You can help save her.
