Driver’s 1-Year-Old Baby Will Never Be Able To Walk Properly If He Does Not Get Urgent Help

When we see his tiny feet curved inward and growing as such… it breaks our heart. We fear that his leg will be permanently deformed and that he will never be able to walk properly.” – Suresh, father.

Last year, Suresh and Meghana were excited when they learned that they were going to become parents. Meghana had a breezy pregnancy and delivered normally at nine months. However, their baby boy faced a lot of issues at birth. He was weak, had a low heart rate, and couldn’t breathe properly.

As a result, he had to undergo treatment, which involved intravenous medication, at the hospital he was born in for an extended period. After a few days of treatment, the parents noticed that there was a prominent wound on his right foot. Though it started small, it grew bigger over time and even turned black due to severe skin infection. The infection was subsequently treated, but little did these unassuming parents know that it would lead to other problems.

They cannot believe that a small infection caused this level of damage…

Suresh and Meghana’s 1-year-old baby is suffering from a contracture of the right foot caused by skin infection. In simple terms this means that the baby’s foot has been bent at a certain angle due to scar tissue formation that takes place post infection. He will need release and reconstruction surgery to correct this and ensure that his foot is fully functional.

“It was just a small wound at first, caused by multiple piercings and placement of needles and cannulas respectively. And now, he cannot even move his foot. We never imagined that a small wound would become infected enough to affect his whole foot.” – Meghana, mother

They have exhausted all their savings, have no one to turn to for help

Suresh is a private vehicle driver based in Royapettah, Chennai. In good months, when there is enough demand and work available, he earns around INR 18,000. But in other months, he earns much less. As a result of his unstable income, he has never been able to have enough savings as all the money he earns would be spent on house rent and groceries alone. However, he had to dip into his savings for the sake of his son, and so whatever little he had is also gone now.

“We want to get him treated as soon as possible, but we will never be able to arrange the funds for his treatment. I have already spent more than INR 1 lakh from my savings. All my finances have been wiped out. I have nobody to loan me money. I am forced to go to loan sharks but even they will refuse to help me because of my lack of a stable job. Please help me get my son treated…I am desperate for help.” – Suresh.
