Cancer Will Make 4-Year-Old Blind Even Before She Joins School

Monisha being the youngest child in her family, is always pampered. She wakes up early in the morning and helps her sisters to get ready to school. When they come back in the evening, she sits with them till they finish their homework. She has even learnt all the letters and numbers from 1-10. She was waiting to go to school and have books and school bag for herself but now eye cancer threatens to take her vision and life. Her parents fear that even before she starts her school, they'll lose her because they cannot afford the treatment.

"We thought she has got some infection, we never imagined it to be cancer"

Monisha was born healthy and she grew up very active. Her parents couldn't have been happier seeing their children growing happily and healthy. Unfortunately, their happiness did not last for long time. Just 20 days back, they noticed that Monisha has a white color in her left pupil, it was also swelling slowly. Her parents took her to a local hospital in their hometown Villupuram, Tamil Nadu.  Doctors said that she has got Retinoblastoma, an eye cancer that begins in the back of the eye (retina), most commonly in children. It can spread to other parts, can make one blind and even kill without treatment.

"We were not prepared for it, we couldn't believe it. Doctors said that we found at the right time and we can cure her if treatment is given . When he explained what cancer can do to her, we were trembling. She has hardly seen the world, there is so much for her to see and learn in this world, I don't know how fate can be so cruel" - Vimala, Mother.

She thinks she can go to school soon

Baby Monisha has just completed 2 cycles of chemo, she needs multiple cycles to recover completely. She also needs Cryotherapy in which doctor uses a small metal probe that is cooled to very low temperatures, killing the cancer cells by freezing them. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her which she is not aware. She thinks she can go home soon and play with her sisters.

"She asks why she needs so many injections when she does not have a fever. We told her that she needs to be strong only then she can go to school. She trusts us, she does not complain about anything. She becomes tired after the chemo, she'll not be able to eat anything otherwise she is active and never stops to talk. It hurts to lie to her but we do not know what we can do." - Vimala.

"I do not have anything to sell, I don't know how I can continue the treatment"

Uday Kumar works as a welder and earns Rs 10,000 per month. With this meager income he managed to take care of his wife and 3 children. He hardly has any savings, whatever he earned was enough only for the family's basic needs. When Monisha was diagnosed with cancer, he borrowed 1 lakh from his friends and relatives and came to Bangalore for treatment. He has exhausted all the money and he needs 7 lakh more. He is taking care of his two daughters at home while Vimala takes care of Monisha in the hospital. His income is not enough even to buy medicines and he fears that he'll not be able to save his daughter.

Without your help this 4-year-old will turn blind and even lose her life
