Little Adyasree has severe pneumonia and has a lot of trouble in breathing. She needs to stay on ventilator support, without that she won’t be able to breathe. She is very weak and is highly vulnerable to severe infections. The doctors want to carry out several tests to find out the exact cause for her condition but the poor family is unable to afford such expensive tests and also the hospital stay.“She was 2-months-old when she started having a bad cough. Soon we saw that she can hardly breathe and was gasping for breath. We immediately took her to the local hospital, but they said that they wouldn’t be able to do much. They advised us to take our daughter to Kochi. Even 12 days ago, when her condition worsened, we took her to same hospital. Sometimes it feels like our lives have been revolving only around doctors and hospitals. Every single day we spend in the fear that Adya will get more sick.”

Sita and her husband, Santosh had innumerable plans when little Adyasree was born to them. Both of them did not get the opportunity to study and they wanted their little daughter to get all the best things in life. But now, they are busy tending to their sick daughter - they are not leaving any stone unturned to make her feel better.Their daughter turned 1, just few months back but they were hardly in a condition to celebrate. The little baby is too weak and can hardly get up and play. The parents now get teary-eyed when they see their baby in the ventilator support, covered with so many tubes. Sita only gets to hold the baby when she feeds her, the rest of the time the couple spend in anticipation about their little one’s health.

“My husband is a daily wage labourer. He does welding works and earns only a meager amount of Rs 500-600 per day. He is the only one earning in our family. We have already spent about Rs 6 lakhs by borrowing from near relatives and selling my wedding jewellery. But we need another Rs 3,50,000 for my daughter to stay in the hospital and recover fully. My husband is trying his best but without help we won’t be able to save our only daughter.”
