Mahalakshmi who just recently delivered her babies is now on her own, looking after her newborns. With no money to seek a proper shelter in a city miles away from their village, she has no choice but to sleep on the hospital floors to stay close to her daughter who is now in NICU. Her husband Surendra had to leave his family and go back to work to arrange money for his daughter's hospital expenses. After a heartbreaking miscarriage, Mahalakshmi’s second pregnancy gave her immense joy

A few months after her marriage, Mahalakshmi got pregnant but even before she knew about any complications, she had a miscarriage. A few months later, she got pregnant again and much to her joy she was carrying twins.

“I was already told that there would be a lot of complications in my pregnancy as I was carrying twins. I was very careful throughout my pregnancy and never missed any doctor's appointments. But a growth scan during the 7 months of my pregnancy showed my babies' lives were at risk. Without another thought, I delivered my babies immediately. Our baby boy was fine but our baby girl was so weak and fragile that they had to admit her in the ICU right after her birth.” - Mahalakshmi, mother

Mahalakshmi’s daughter was born prematurely barely weighing 1kg. She is unable to breathe on her own as her lungs are not completely developed and now she’s on mechanical ventilator support in NICU. Currently, she’s showing signs of progress, but she needs to stay in NICU for 20 days more for her full recovery but her parents can never afford the expenses.
