This 6-Month-Old Keeps Turning Blue Because She Can't Breathe

“One moment I'd be playing with her, watching her smile at me, and then suddenly I'd watch her turn all blue. Her smile fades away and her eyes go wide. Every time this happens I fear her heart might stop beating. I don’t know what to do.”
Laxmi, mother

It was after 9 years that Laxmi and Vijay were blessed with a child. Their happiness had no boundaries but the news that their child’s life was threatened by a disease left them devastated.

“The doctors told us when Laxmi was a few months pregnant itself that the child has a severe heart disease that could lead to death. We had a choice... no parent should face such a choice. How could we let go of our child?" - Grandmother

A loan that is not letting this father come home

The parents knew that operation was needed, so they planned. They saved every penny they could to be able to afford the child’s operation but it wasn’t enough, so Vijay took a loan and finally got her that surgery. Now the same loan is not letting him come home.

“My husband works in Dubai and it’s not as great as it sounds. He hasn't even see his baby. He... he is stuck there, he has to clear the loan he took to come back home. When he named her Ananya, it was over the phone. Her naming was such a heartbreaking moment for all of us instead of being an occasion. He cries that he can’t be with his daughter when she needs him the most.”

Unfortunately, that first operation was not a success, and little Ananya now needs another operation to survive.

“What can daily-wagers like us do? Where will we get so much money from?”

Vijay and Laxmi both work as daily-wagers, he in Dubai and Laxmi here in India. They thought that first operation would be the end of their troubles, but now Ananya needs another one! While Vijay’s earnings are going towards paying off the loan he took last time, Laxmi’s income is not even enough to afford basic medicines, let alone the second operation their Ananya needs. They need Rs 5 lakhs to save Ananya but feel helpless.
