Daily Wager Who Can't Even Afford Medicines For His 8-Year-Old Needs Help To Save Her Life

My daughter was born with a severe blood disease, everyday she struggles for her survival. I gave away everything I had to save her but it was not enough. I am so poor now that I can afford her regular tests and medicines only when I find someone kind enough to lend me money. I am able to do nothing when the disease is threatening to take her life away,” - Narayan, father.

Geetika is suffering form Beta Thalassaemia, a blood disorder that reduces the production of haemoglobin, which lead to lack of oxygen in many parts of the body.

‘My daughter lived a normal life only for 10 months’

To improve her hemoglobin count, Geetika started undergoing blood transfusions when she was as little as 3 month. She needed it once in every couple of weeks. But when she reached 7, the treatment did not work any longer.  Luckily, her elder sister,  Akhila was a fully matched donor. Narayan sold his house and took loans to afford the life-saving transplant. But little did they what the cruel fate had planned for them.

After the transplant, she was a different person. She went to school with her sister and also made new friends. For the first time in our life , my wife and I felt content. But after 10 months, her hemoglobin count went down drastically. When the doctors declared that she is suffering from the disease again, the fear of losing our daughter started haunting us,” - Narayan.

Akhila saved Geethika's life once, she wants to save her again

Geetika's condition was so critical that only an urgent bone marrow transplant can save her now

Akhila taught Geetika to draw and she loved to colour in her spare time

"She used to wait for me to come from school so that she could listen to everything that happened. I know she misses all that - I keep praying for her to get better soon. I hope I can save her this time too" - Akhila.

She just wishes to live a normal life, but I can't even give her that

Akhila and Geetika’s parents have sold everything and are barely able to pay back their previous debt. Narayan and Subamma are daily wagers who work in farms. They earn Rs 300 together per day. Geetika’s regular tests and medicines alone cost them Rs 25,000 per month which they are struggling to afford.

“The expenses have overburdened my shoulders and I cannot afford another life-saving transplant which costs 15 lakhs. I couldn't clear my previous debt of 23 lakhs and nobody is willing to lend me more. My daughter just wishes to live a normal life but how do I tell her if we don't get money on time, I may not even be able to save her?" - Narayan.
