Ashoka Changemakers Twitter Conference #socentchat to Discuss Financial Inclusion

More than half of the world’s adults currently lack access to affordable and secure financial services. High transaction costs, physical barriers, and difficult loan agreements prevent many marginalized and underserved communities from building more prosperous futures.

How can we include everyone in the formal financial sector? How can getting all citizens access to savings accounts, credit, insurance, and other services to improve their standard of living? These are the questions that will be explore during the 6 hour long virtual Twitter based conference being organized by Ashoka Changemakers as part of the G2012 Mexico Financial Inclusion: Innovative Solutions for Unlocking Access competition.

Ashoka Changemakers on Wednesday, July 25th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST is organizing a Twitter based #SocEntChat on Financial Inclusion.

In this six-hour, multilingual Twitter conference, you can discuss your ideas and chat with expert panelists about solutions from all over the world. The #SocEntChat will include three back-to-back sessions: Technology & Financial Inclusion, Financing Livelihoods, and The Future of Financial Inclusion Innovation.

A #SocEntChat is a real-time, Twitter-based discussion about social entrepreneurship focused on a specific theme. It is designed for current and aspiring social entrepreneurs, funders, journalists, and supporters to share their ideas, discuss the state of the field, identify the latest innovations, and pinpoint areas requiring deeper exploration.

Joining the conversation is easy. Just log-in to Twitter at 8 a.m. EST on Wednesday, July 25th, 2012. Then:

  • Use the #SocEntChat hashtag to make your comments visible in the stream. During #SocEntChat, use search.twitter.com or an application like Tweetdeck (www.tweetdeck.com) or thwirl (www.thwirl.com) to follow the hashtags and keep up with the conversation.
  • Introduce yourself and take a minute to get to know the other chatters when you join.
  • Send your questions to @changemakers without the hashtag (to keep them out of the stream) to have them considered for the conversation.
