Only 72 Hours To Save Taxi Driver's 5-Year-Old From Heart Failure

“I can’t even afford to buy my daughter’s medicines on time which cost around Rs. 2000 every month. How will I ever be able to afford her heart operation?” – Ramdev, Akshita’s father
For the longest time, Ramdev and his wife, Sheeta didn’t think that their 5-year-old daughter was going to make it. She has not only been living with a hole in her heart since birth but also severely affected with Down syndrome. Now, apart from the lack of mental growth, Akshita’s heart is at high risk of failure.

Her father, who is a taxi driver, has given everything and is restless to provide for the urgent heart surgery Akshita needs in the next 72 hours.

Akshita needs to undergo a heart surgery within the next 3 days

The 5-year-old’s inability to breathe normally and a high fever has left her so critical that she needs to undergo a corrective heart surgery within the next 72 hours.

“She has pneumonia too. She can’t stop coughing and her fevers were running high. I got her to the hospital on 2nd April and she had to be admitted for almost a month to become normal. Now, her heart is giving up and this couldn’t be harder to watch.” – Ramdev
Akshita is diagnosed with a severe congenital heart disease known as Atrioventricular canal defect. Simply put, this defect has resulted in a hole in her heart and because of this her body can’t receive enough oxygen through normal breathing, causing a bunch of other problems like pneumonia and breathlessness.

Akshita’s mental growth has been terribly slow

Other’s making fun of their daughter isn’t the only concern of Ramdev and Sheeta. Akshita’s mental growth has taken a huge hit because of which she doesn’t leave home and needs constant attention.

She just urinates anywhere she wants. It’s very sad to watch because all of this is because of the Down syndrome but even if we send her to school, who will take responsibility of her? At home, she urinates in the bedrooms, kitchen, just about everywhere. We clean up after her at home but how can we send her alone to school? She barely speaks. She doesn’t even utter the words ‘mummy’ or ‘papa’. It’s heartbreaking.” – Ramdev

Ramdev is restless to save Akshita

Despite being through so much and watching their daughter suffer endlessly for a couple of years, Ramdev and Sheeta want to fight.

Ramdev is a taxi driver who earns a meager salary of Rs. 350/day. Through this, he and his wife, Sheeta, have 3 other kids to feed every day in addition to paying rent.

“Now, her heart is failing and that is more important. If she gets the surgery, the doctor said that it has high chances of being a success. I’ve just run out of everything. I borrowed Rs. 25,000 to pay her hospital bills of last month. On top of this, my 9-year-old daughter, Komal keeps asking me if Akshita is going to die or not. It’s so hard to answer her questions. ” – Ramdev
