    Menstrual Hygiene For Underprivileged Women

    from New Delhi, Delhi

I am Yukti Gupta, a law student with a keen interest in social work.

Normally, 1.8 billion people across the world menstruate every month. Of these, about 20% population (355 million approximately) is present in India. While menstruation is a natural phenomenon since time immemorial, around 28 million of India’s menstruating population does not have proper access to menstrual hygiene and education even in the 21st century. The taboo associated with this is even more rampant.

To combat this problem, I am working with Hamari Pahchan NGO under their initiative Project Sukhad which aims to provide basic menstrual hygiene necessities to underprivileged women, promote sanitary conditions along with educating and eradicating the stigmas surrounding menstruation.
The primary agenda of Project Sukhad is to distribute 'Sukhad kits', a one-stop annual menstrual hygiene solution containing 24 packets of sanitary pads, 6 packets of soap and paper envelopes for disposal. The bags for Sukhad Kits and the paper envelopes are made by underprivileged women so they also have a source of earning their livelihood.
Under this initiative, we have already facilitated more comfortable menstruation for 50,000 underprivileged women and girls and seek to only increase this number.
Sukhad Kit for 1 menstruating person costs ₹1,400/-
Sukhad Kit for 5 menstruating people costs ₹7,000/-

Access to comfortable and hygienic menstruation is a matter of human rights. While we are fortunate enough to have access to all necessities for menstruation, there are many who do not. But, we can overcome this problem with our contribution, no matter how big or small.

This is time for us to take action and support causes that can make the lives of those around us easier.
I look forward to your donations, every penny is worth some difference.
