Story
Wednesday, the 8th of March is decided to be the International Women's Day 2017. We want to celebrate this day with a function for all the women we already work with and to motivate new members to join us and empower themself. We would like to create a day full of information and fun where the women come together and learn about their rights and their worth. Also, we want other people to pick up on important topics such as violence against women and the equality of men and women.
Last year, we already conducted a function on Women's Day which was a big succsess. It started with a rally from our office in Nettapakkam to the function hall in Thirumana Mandabam. Many women were participating and we got a lot of attention that lets us hope that our message left an ongoing impression.
Afterwards, we welcomed our special guests in front of the women in the function hall. Our guests held speeches about important topics regarding women, such as:
- 'Protectionof female children from sexual abuse' by Mr M. Munusamy, Secretaryof the Social Welfare Board Puducherry
- 'Current situation of women, their developments and struggles inmodern society' by Mrs R. Nalini, Head of the Centre for Women Studies of the University Puducherry
- 'The role of women in their families' by Mr K.R. Sheshathri, District Youth Coordinator of NYK, Puducherry
- 'Self help group and credit programs to support families' by Mr C.Jayaraman, Manager of the Indian Overseas bank
Apart from the educational program of this day, we also conducted some fun activities. These included a cooking competition and a rangoli competition, things that especially women are good at, to celebrate their everyday achivements.
We also rewarded especially great participants of our computer study class and the competitionsand honoured the district level first in tenth standard girl student with our special guests.
The day was a great success and we are looking forward to celebrate another day like this.
Karunalayam Rural Welfare Society is supported by the Government of India and generous donors.
Our wish is to conduct the Women’s Day in 2017 as memorable as it was in 2016. Organizing everything for this event requires a lot of money which unfortunately, we can not afford alone. We are thankful for every donation and are happy to answer your questions, in case you have any doubts!
