We are fundraising to empower rural women in Tamil Nadu through livelihood opportunities

In 2013, Ambika, a daily wage laborer from Trichy, borrowed Rs.10,000 from Milaap’s lending community. Today, she is a successful entrepreneur. Before her Milaap loan, Ambika, her husband, a mason, and their two children lived in poverty. Then, in January 2013, she and four friends trained in screen-printing. They borrowed Rs.10,000 each from Milaap to buy saris and printing supplies. They started a sari-printing business. A year later, they were selling 10 saris a month for around Rs.2000 each. Income from their profits funds school supplies and savings. A simple Milaap loan freed 5 families from poverty. Your loans and efforts can transform the lives of hundreds of women like Ambika.

GMF, our field partner headquartered at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, trains and arranges financial support for rural women so they can establish sustainable income sources. Its objective is to eradicate poverty by promoting rural entrepreneurs. Women receive training in one of 25 income-generating skills, such as screen-printing, tailoring, and animal-farming. Milaap, through its community of lenders, provides simple loans to buy raw materials and setup small businesses. The profits they make increase their income, and empower them to realize their dreams of a good future for their children.
