Women workers form the largest percentage of tea plantation labor in Darjeeling. While Darjeeling tea is celebrated as the ‘champagne of teas’, the women working in the plantation are paid the lowest in this sector.

Due to the Covid lockdown and work restrictions, many women workers are directly affected and pushed further into poverty.
