I am running a marathon to bring clean water to rural India

54-year-old Murugayee from Musiri, Tamil Nadu is happy with the piped connection that brings clean drinking water into her home. Earlier, she walked to the public tap and stood in queue for an hour. Due to a low supply there were often fights; once, she had her nose broken. She often returned home with lesser water than her family needed. On days the supply ran out, her family had no water. When GUARDIAN, through Milaap, offered her community support to install their own water connections at home, Murugayee applied. With a small Rs. 7000 loan, her family installed a water tap right at home.
Families like Murugayee’s across rural India seek a permanent solution to their water woes. Many children, to help their mothers, skip school. Milaap partners with non-profits like GUARDIAN in Tamil Nadu to provide a solution. They spread awareness about hygienic practices like daily bathing, washing hands, and drinking clean water. Health is their greatest asset, as illness means losing work and income. They talk about keeping the children in school and not at water taps. Milaap connects them to lenders like you, so they can access affordable loans to install their own piped water connections in their homes.
