Barkville is what we breathe. Barkville is what I live for. Not the name but those eyes that blink under that roof, I live for those eyes, to see them continue to be bright. Our minimum requirement was one vigha land. These dogs give a purpose to my life and so I’ve dedicated my life to them. Every decision I make, I have their interest at the center. It was time that I got married now. As crazy as it may sound but it couldn’t be just to make my parents happy. I had to have something in there for me too. I got lucky enough to find the man I’m married to today. He didn’t only accept me with my adopted dogs but he also supported my dream that had made me sleepless. He funded us to buy a land of our own from where our dogs will never be asked to leave. I’m mortal but Barkville will live on, it will continue to be the home forever even in my absence. I couldn’t do it if Swati didn’t take the responsibility of managing the shelter on her own while I was out there arranging funds. She completes me. She runs around tirelessly to help the animals in need. She runs for the injured stray animals, for their sterilization, to rescue the pet dogs in need of help, for their adoption house check, for their vet visits, for their sterilization before adoption so that they’re not abused into making puppies, for those multiple endless meetings in a hope to arrange food and medication for our puppers and salary for the shelter staff.
Barkville is a home to that disabled and forced retired CRPF Labrador, it’s a home to that paralyzed stray dog, it’s a home to those orphan stray pups who grew up to be beautiful dogs but couldn’t find an adopter, Barkville is a home to that male calf abandoned to be gone to the slaughter house, Barkville is a home to that discarded horse with damaged forelegs, Barkville is a home to so many other homeless animals and it also is a home to a poor couple who now take care of our dogs so that they can send money to their old parents back home.
But we’re exhausted now. We feared for our dogs to become homeless again if landlord asked to vacate the rented shelter property without notice. So now I decided to use my private property instead. But we have no funds to construct the shelter on it. We need help towards creating a forever home for our animals. We’ve seen many locks in our life, now we need people to find the keys. The kind of number we’re looking at is 30 lacs. We don’t have that. But what we have is you and we’ve a hope that my plea will not go unheard. I’m Himani Mod and Barkville is Swati’s and my promise to those homeless animals. Please help us keep that promise.
