The success of the small initiatives of setting a community learning centre at the middle of of surat at the slums motivates us to scale our intervention.
Surat city has lots of migrants people from Mahrashtra,odisha,uttarpradesh,bihar,Jharkhand,Madhya pradesh and people from south in the search of livelihood.
Residing family of people comprising from 4-10 in the single room of 10X12 feet with the one corner having kitchen,living room and bedroom.
Students hardly gets environment for study and is much easily get attracted toward the source of income contribution to the family by supporting there hands in saree work and others labour jobs available at community and drop out schools.
School dropout in the concern of national level and am not the efficient one to address for the solution mechanism to it.But I am worried about those parents who push hard their potential to assure their children education for their bright for which they were underprivileged.
We started community library in the slum of Marathi migrant community limbayat sanjay nagar with the help of local youth who volunteer to contribute their special hours to address the need of the needy children who had to appear for Navodaya entrance exam in coming 35 days.
We went to each government school nearby and gathered children whose form where filled for navodaya exam. We were not surprised that parents even don't know their children has to go through such exam or what actually navodaya school can contribute to them. Children knew that they have to give exam but had not even had the books to prepare as had to appear in Marathi medium and books for the same had to bought from Maharashtra and were not available at Gujarat.
Hence with this new learning our journey started,books where arranged travelling some 400 km to Jalgaon.Volunteer were trained for aptitude and rolling the syllabus. our strategies helped children to learn faster.Parents started taking interest and appreciated volunteer for their hardwork which motivated them.
At the exam day one parent who was auto driver left his daily work and contributed to drop each and every student to exam center with tears on his eye with the fear and happiness that what will be the outcome of our hard work.
At the end when result was declared one of the children Prajval patil got admission at Navodaya vyara which inspired the people to take interest in this types of exam. Number of children in the community from 9 participants in the year of 2015 -16 turned on the academic year 2016-17 more than 60 from the government school in the nearby localities of Limbayat.
Volunteer are now paid not much but some amount by the communities, influencial people and inspired parents to support the learning get sustained to change life of some other talent get opportunity.
We are looking now to establish 300 community learning center in the different parts of country like Nadurbar district in Maharashtra, Narmada district in Gujarat slowly scaling to other parts of country preparing them for scholarship,Navodaya school, competitive examination in a learning centre with library,classroom and digital room to assure study after school where children learn with the help of peers support and volunteers.
