My name is Ankush and I have more than 11 years of experience across sectors including Rural Development, Development Consulting and Information Technology. I am a Chevening Scholar and have just finished my masters from Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. I was a Prime Minister Rural Development Fellow and have worked in insurgency affected areas of Bihar and Meghalaya for three years.
It was in 2012 that I left a hefty pay package offer in the United States and a corporate job to listen to my true calling and join rural development. In 2019, I intend to take another plunge and work on a model that I feel passionate about and believe is the need of the hour.
We are going to start a project called ‘Vayam’ that will work with adolescents and youth in less developed central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Vayam is a sanskrit word that means ‘we’ which, I believe, is the essence of any transformational change.
Vayam is a comprehensive youth engagement and development programme that would-
- Work with 900-1000 youth from 200 villages spread across Seoni district of MP to facilitate their self-exploration journey
- It would also help them identify and achieve their career through handholding support provided by the organisation and partners network
- The time of association with youth would also be used to expose them to socio-political realities of diversity, peace, justice, citizenship, gender equality and respect for human rights to enthuse community orientation.
- The Project would make youth experience accountability tools like RTI, Social Audits and development tools like micro-planning, direct democracy among others
We believe that the intervention will create economically successful and socially responsible citizens. Having achieved success and being socially aware, they’ll act as influencers in their own communities and will ensure social, administrative and political accountability.
But this would not be possible without your help. Your generosity will drive this initiative for coming years and will establish a strong youth development model that can change the way we look at youth and development. Please contribute to make it a success.
