Small scale indoor farm for urban farming

Our food system is broken. In a rapidly urbanizing world, the urban population is highly dependent on food from outside the city which loses its freshness and nutritional content by the time it reaches the cities. On top of that, much of our food is
adulterated and growing using pesticides. Overall, our food is grown using unsustainable farming practices and there are huge food losses in transportation and storage from far off distances.

Local urban farming is an effective solution to the problem as it brings transparency (food grows almost in front of us) in the system and enables the urban population to eat fresh, pesticide-free and nutritious food. Most importantly, urban farming gives the urban population a chance to re-connect with our food.

We are developing a small scale, indoor, vertical farm to grow food in a highly sustainable manner to enable local urban farming. This technique uses 90% less water compared to traditional agriculture (70% of worlds freshwater is used by agriculture) and it decreases pressure on land to produce food which is a massive cause for land degradation. The vertical farm is highly modular and can be placed anywhere in households, schools, hospitals, restaurants and grocery shops. It is designed in a fashion to enable "busy" urban population to be involved as much as one wants and the vegetables would grow harmlessly. We do this with the aid of technologies like Hydroponics, IoT and AI.

We have created a 0th prototype and achieved a proof of concept and are now building our first prototype. With my experience in IoT and AI, and with the help of mentors in hydroponics, I believe we can execute this to perfection. The ultimate vision is to create a massive network of these modular urban farms in every city, connecting us, the urban population, with our food.

The funds will be used to buy equipment (electronic and hydroponic) and meet fabrication costs.
