Before we proceed on the 'why's of fundraising, I want to share this small incident. Couple of months back I had an opportunity to take three of my kids to a doodle competition. It was around 7 kms away from school and in a different locality. All three kids that I was taking along were the most energetic kids in the class, the naughtiest and the talkative ones. As soon as they climbed in the backseat of my car, they became silent. Throughout the drive to our destination, they kept mum. Just three pairs of big, curious eyes looking out of the window was all I could see through my rear view mirror. When we reached the place, I stopped the car and asked them as to whats wrong and why were they so silent? one of my kids told me that, this was the first time they had gotten out of their locality and come this far. They were scared and anxious when they got to see a different side of the world. This left me wondering as to what kind of exposure have my kids got? What can I do to give them better exposure and access to the world outside?

Why am I fundraising?

Hello! Thank you for taking time out and reading this.
I am raising funds for my school and to make sure the children have good access and exposure to opportunities. Your funds and especially the help provided by you, will help me give the kids an opportunity to have field trips, celebrate annual day in the school and organize life skills workshops in the school.

Our story -
We are a class of 35 'ten year old' curious minds, that study in a low income Kannada medium Government school - GHPS Pantharapalya in Nayanadahalli, Bengaluru. We come from a modest background and our parents are daily wage earners. We aim to be avid readers and leaders of our age. Our parents invest in studies, but, they cannot contribute beyond the basic tuition fees at the school. This is the reason why we need your help to help us raise funds so that we are able to enjoy the same education as the high income counterparts in our city.

My work and its impact -
Academic excellence alone cannot help in the holistic development of a child. For a child's overall learning, exposure and access to various opportunities is an essential thing. 90% of my kids haven't stepped out of their community and seen the world outside. I strongly believe that every child needs a colorful and adventurous childhood, this requires them to spend time outside school too. For them even a Metro train ride is a big exposure and they cherish every minute of that outing.

Through the funds raised, I am aiming to take them on field trips.  Some of the places for field trips include, a day at the Planetarium, the Central Library,
(VITM) Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bannerghatta National Park, The Government aquarium, Bal Bhavan In Cubbon Park, Factory visits, Visit to Orphanages and Old age homes, a movie and a fun day out at Lal Bagh.

How will I utilize these funds -
I plan to include two more Teach for India classes for the field trips. So we have a total of 75 kids.
The funds will be mainly used for the following expenses
Bus Rental- 4500/day
Food and water for 75 kids
Entry fees at each place- Average of Rs.40

Rest of the funds would be used for an annual day celebration. Children in most of the Government schools do not get to showcase their talent in schools. Through an End of the Year showcase we plan to bring out the kids on stage and make their parents feel proud.

I strongly believe in providing every possible opportunity for the kids to explore and be curious. And this can be done only when they are taken out of their zone into a different one.

Please help me make this possible...
