What we want to do?
“Pond Restoration” is as part of our Project HiFi (Help in Farmers interest) which we started as an initiative to support Rural India and ensure we play a little role in supporting the farmers, rural communities and help in the global fight of removing poverty as per UNDG. Our motto is to assist farmers who all are united towards making developed Delta Region and so, we wish to play as a good friend supporting in funding and helping in connecting the dots (donors and beneficiaries).
Why we want to do it?
Restoration of Ponds in Delta Region of Tamil Nadu has become a necessity now.
Nagapattinam was highly affected due to the recent Gaja Cyclone, droughts, floods since 2000.
As we know, Pond is the prime water source for cattle, homes, trees, birds, wild and domestic animals, and restoring all ponds will definitely impact majority of Nagapattinam people who are employed in sea-borne trading, fishing, and agriculture.
Restoration of these ponds will:
• Act as water storage
• Provide drinking water for all the villagers
• Water for agriculture
• Improve ground water level and help to feed thirsty animals and birds.
We first got opportunity to support farmers of "Mogannur" village in Nagapattinam District where we helped in restoration of Water Canal to a length of 7 Kms which benefited 400 acres of agricultural land. This project was our starting point of collaboration with Kaveri Vevasiygal Nala Sangam. This project cost us around 1.10 Lakhs which was primarily used for renting machinery and trucks. Some pictures given below for your view:
Post this we once again worked with KVNS to restore an 8 Acres pond in Porvancherry Village, Nagapatinam District. This restoration was done first time in last 100 years and this is currently benefitting 2000 villagers and project cost was INR 1,00,000. Important point to be noted in all these project is this was not entirely done by an NGO or Association rather done as a community development project involving local residents, farmers, labours under 100 days income guarantee scheme and NGOs.
