The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in schools being shut across the country, including my own. While I am unable to physically attend school, my education has been uninterrupted - the usual routine of tests, exams and classes continues. I have realised how privileged I am to be able to participate in school life from the comfort of my home.
Unfortunately, this is not the case for many of my peers and fellow students - especially those from under-resourced and marginalized communities. Not only has their education been brutally disrupted, their households also lack food and basic supplies needed for survival.
Teach for India's campaign is trying to ensure that these children and families get immediate relief - food and basic supplies - and that they don’t stop learning. They started by identifying the needs of their 32,000 students, and pinpointed their urgent needs. Teach for India is trying to ensure that these children have sufficient food, water, shelter and medical assistance.
Running is one of my passions, and to support these critical relief efforts, I commit to running a total distance of 125 km until 27th June. For every kilometre that I run, I ask you to donate just Rs. 2 - a total contribution of Rs. 250. If you wish to donate more, please feel free to do so. Every rupee you give will be used to provide a variety of basic amenities to communities that desperately need them, and to make sure children across India continue attaining the valuable resource of knowledge.
Please note that I will take adequate safety precautions in the process - running in isolated areas and quieter times, maintaining adequate social distancing and wearing masks at all times. If the situation worsens, I will ensure that I do not endanger my life as well as the lives of those around me.
I request you to donate to this wonderful cause. It is our responsibility as a society to take care of those in need, and your donations can play an important role in achieving this.
