Just like any other child Vikash Patel also wanted to jump up high and touch the sky, Wanted to play in the ground and have a parade with his friends, playing cricket and basketball, screaming and making a loud sound. He was also having some dreams and aim for his upcoming life. But unfortunately, those little dreamy eyes has to face a painful never-ending ride, a school topper, a normal child just as us, had to face the cruel reality of being confined to his disease. Vikash was enjoying his life like a normal person until the age of 8 years until he started facing physical issues. One day when he returned from school, he told her mother about his leg pain. In the beginning, the pain was not that severe but as time passed the problem started to become more and more worse, his body muscles started getting weak day by day. His father, being a farmer then rushed him to hospital but the situation was not that good. Doctors were not even able to diagnose the disease. His father having the hope of his children leading a normal life sold some of his part of farming land which is the only income source of their family for expenses of treatment. Because his daughter now is also suffering from the same problem and her body was more than 80% handicapped till a team of Swathya Batua visited to that village for the collection of health data. They met Vikash and his family and they were shocked because this family was suffering a lot from a long time. They diagnosed it and found the cause of disease i.e SMA “Spinal Muscular atrophy” It is a disease that robs people's physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in spinal cord taking away the ability to walk eat or breathe. Medicine can only stop its further spread and worsening, but it cannot recover the body strength that is gone for a long time. As of now, Vikash cannot become normal, his body will remain 80% disabled forever. All his dreams and hopes are shattered now. He is only 16-year-old, he wished to lead a long path in his life but not everyone is that lucky to have a happier and healthier life. Even after knowing the cause of disease we can not do anything for Vikash to have a normal life. What we can do is "not letting this disease to stop any other Vikash from dreaming and hoping high".
