It has been time and again established that the use of masks is imperative as a measure against the spread of the lethal virus. However, with the lack of proper mechanisms, most people in and around Dehradun have small, non-reusable black masks that provide little to no protection. These masks are also environmentally hazardous because they are non-reusable and need to be disposed of. This causes a large financial burden on some people who cannot afford to buy a mask after every single use. The masks aren’t manufactured on standard measures, and discrepancy in sizes risks uncovered mouths and noses, which is potentially quite dangerous.
Recently, I have been in contact with one of the volunteers at Goonj, a non-profit organisation which works to provide equitable sustenance in villages. The volunteer informed me of how she has watched many people in Dehradun and outside Dehradun using badly constructed masks, which are not environmentally friendly and this really made her feel unsafe as well as bad for the people having to work in the heat with these masks. Furthermore, she told me that Goonj have started an initiative to provide masks, along with food and other essentials, to as many villages as they can outside Dehradun. They have their own methods of raising funds, but every little bit would help and so I have chosen to try and help them. We need your help and funds to manufacture masks that are made of cotton, are reusable, comfortable, and sufficiently large
Your funds will be directly deposited on your behalf to Goonj which is registered under the Societies Act and for exemption under section 80 G, 12 A and for foreign contributions- under FCRA. More information about their philosophy can be accessed from their website.
It is imperative that we come together as a community and help people with resources as much as we can. Please donate as much as you can. One click can save a life somewhere.
