We, Better Life Fondation (NGO) have been trying our level best to stand by COVID affected patients and their families, as well as combat the social stigma associated with the disease. Over the last few weeks we have been able to distribute sanitizer, mask, food in many parts of the West Bengal, areas across Kolkata, Nadia, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and South 24 Parganas and Howrah, and also conduct sanitation drives in many areas. We have conducted minimum 10 awareness campaign processions, distributed medicines, masks, sanitizers, foods across these areas. We want to start community Kitchens so that we can provide cooked meals to the needy people. Ration distribution has also been conducted for 500 persons across the Kolkata. We have been helping covid 19 people through arranging blood donor, plasma donors across the West Bengal. We have admitted 100s of patients in government hospitals, still providing tele medicine to the home isolation patients.
Post the landfall of Cyclone Yaas, the ecology of the villages of South Bengal and especially the delta region is again at stake. The mud houses are severely damaged as tide water has flowed in. Soon enough the fertile lands for cultivation will cease to be so and the saline water will also devour the fresh water ponds. It is a matter of time in which the chain of employment activities sustaining the local people will be endangered. Moreover, this might trigger the spread of COVID in a newfound manner as protocols like isolation, sanitization, etc. will be hard to put in place in the post cyclone scenario. The rural landscape and life there is now exposed to face the brunt of cyclone Yaas, COVID and the burden of lockdown.
Like last year, this year too, people in the region are in a big helpless state. We have stood by the people of the West Bengal with all possible cooperation. This year also we are going to stand by them again in this difficult situation.
We have teams on standby to respond to the situation across the affected regions and are constantly trying to get reports from the ground so that we may respond at the earliest.
Our initiatives would not be possible without your support, monetary or otherwise. Please keep standing by us, as we stand by all.
