Through our Project "Indradhanush" - we at SPREDA want to bring improvement in the quality of lives of underprivileged women including migrant women, domestic maids who are suffering a lot not only during COVID-19 lockdown period but still struggling due to their vulnerable conditions. Their children have no choice but to get dropped out of school due to financial constraints. Most of these women don't have a support system to bank on. Their husbands are either not working, or spend a substantial part of their earnings on liquor.
While talking about domestic maids, their employers are also not very sensitive towards their problems. These maids are very essential for efficient management of our daily lives, this most of us have witnessed during lockdown period. In this critical and unforeseen times, many of domestic maids have lost their jobs also which has multiplied their difficulties. These maids have a time limitation due to the nature of work they are engaged in, hence can not take up more jobs, as every household requires their services at the same time, resulting into limited income.
We, at SPREDA want to help them set up micro-startups, where they can use their sphere time, earn additional sustainable income. They can get rid of the exploitation they face. Their children will also take pride in saying that their mothers are Entrepreneurs, owner of Small Startup. This small support will be a ray of hope in many lives. It is a small effort to spread Happiness.
In our Project "Indra Dhanush - Rainbow" we will form Seven Startup Groups "Satrangi", each group have seven women involved in a particular activity/product such as food items, packaging of rice, pulses, spices, tea leaves, making carry bags and rugs from waste materials, preparing puja kit, assembling solar products, collecting waste flowers from temples and using those for making incense sticks etc. The ides is to equip them with skills through which they can earn additional income at their preferred time, provide them access to information, social protection schemes and other benefits.
Our effort towards Dignity of Labour is to support these poor, struggling migrant women and domestic maids Achieve Decent Work.
