According to a survey conducted by the National Family Health Survey in 2015-2016, it was estimated that only 36 per cent of menstruators have access to sanitary napkins, locally or commercially produced.
Our aim with the Pad Donation Drive is to help eradicate period poverty and help menstruators rise above the limitations posed by a lack of access to such products, as well as initiate a necessary positive conversation that serves to structurally undo the stigma surrounding menstruation that has been and continues to be evidently prevalent in our society. The Pad Donation Drive is an initiative aimed at creating awareness around menstrual health and facilitating increased and easy accessibility to sanitary napkins for disadvantaged communities.
We are initiating the first phase of this donation drive in Delhi, with the intention of eventually scaling it up to a pan India level. The donation drive will go on ground in Delhi in the months of March and April, primarily in two phases:
1) Collection and,
2) Distribution.
We plan to collect and distribute approximately 4000 sanitary napkins for 200 menstruators spread across the five zones of North, South, East, West, and Central Delhi, as well as Noida.
Girl Up Rise is a chapter of the UN foundation Girl Up campaign, aimed at advancing girls' skills, rights, and opportunities to become leaders. It aims at pushing forth for gender equality by enabling girls with adequate resources to initiate movements of change. We have 80 volunteers spread across 21 states working on legal literacy initiatives, marketing campaigns to help sustain refugee livelihoods, and social media campaigns to break gender and sex-based stereotypes, among other things.
Girl Up Rise has set up this crowdfunding account to gather capital that will be used to buy sanitary napkins. These pads will then be distributed in communities identified by our organisation.
