Hello everyone!! My name is Vivek Vishwakarma. I am currently studying in 11th grade and this year only I passed my boards by securing 85.40% from Gumpha Road English Municipal Secondary School. Although I had to face a lot of difficulties in my school days still I was able to enjoy and gain quality education because I had the support of Teach For India since 3rd grade by which I was being supportive and enjoy the school days as any other private school student was able to.
I belong to a very low-income middle-class family so we didn’t have the money by which I could gain education from a private school so I got admission into a government school. Even studying in this school was a big hope for my family that I will get educated and will not be illiterate like them.
3. My education
Teach For India didis and bhaiyaas helped me think about the question “WHO AM I?”. I got to know that I have a very important role in this world which I need to recognize by myself. With their support, I got a lot of chances in a lot of extra curriculum activities and also I participated in them but those were on a very small platform and I wanted to do big things.
4. My learnings
I had got a good pace in my studies and academics but still wanted to do something so in 8th grade I worked under the project ‘100 WOMEN’ in which we were publishing stories of 100 women to show the world about the different faces and struggles of women. Then in my 9th grade at one side everyone was filling application and essays for internship in Pune I was making myself ready to pass my board ‘one year prior planning’ because I was thinking that exams are everything but I was wrong because exams are just one part of our life and we have a lot of things we can do so.
Then I along with my classmates, started a project GURUKOOL so that the quality and excellent education I was receiving should not be limited to us but also should be limitless so that each and every student should be able to get it and for our first step started from our school and we made council of student leaders to teach other section of classes when the class teacher of that particular class is absent or there is no class teacher as well. My project GURUKOOL was selected in the national KER week as well.
5. Problems brought by pandemic
During this time also I achieved an opportunity to have a two months internship in Pune as the Fellows of the future from Teach For India and I just grabbed that opportunity and after that the Covid-19 problem came in the whole world and everyone’s work suddenly stopped and same for my father also whose earning stopped and with the time, savings also disappeared.
I realized that my family had a lot of problems in terms of money but still they were educating me and now when this situation came into existence I was shocked that my father has a lot of loan on his head which needs to be cleared off, then I thought for searching jobs for me where I could earn for my family but no one was ready to give me a job as I am just 16 years old and I cant work at this age.
Then I lost hope of helping my family and I came back to my studies but here also I started facing problems that now classes have gone online and the problem exist that we have only one phone in our house and we are three brothers and sister and it becomes difficult for me to attend the classes and my family cant afford a new phone in this pandemic as the income is not regular in our family so because of that it has been affecting my social, family and professional life relates to my project and my upcoming ideas.
If I get the help from this platform to raise money for all the equipment for my studies then I believe that the I can definitely contribute to this society as a change maker.
