This is Hareesh Kumar. I am 19 years old and the Only Son of my Father Mr. S. Vijayan, aged 59 years.
In the month of December 2018, my father had a sudden severe attack of Jaundice and was a immediately admitteded at The Vijaya Hospital, Vadapalani, Chennai and was under treatment for 2 months, for which we had spent around 8 lakhs. Unfortunately, my father did not respond well to the treatment provided and his health deteriorated for the worst, while our financial sources were getting exhausted with least improvement in him.
Hence we decided to shift him to Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chrompet, Chennai which is the best in city for Liver diseases. There my father was diagnosed to have End Stage Liver Disease with a MELD score of 21 (criteria indicative of his very critical state) and the Liver speciality doctors established the indispensability of him undergoing a Liver Transplantation Surgery at the earliest to save his life. The Liver transplantation costs 25,00,000 (approx.), provided no complications arise during the surgery and excluding the expenses for the post-operative care.
My father had retired earlier this year and my mother is a housewife. The source of income for my family is only my father's pension which is meagre and barely suffices to run the family. Already, due to our financial setback, I have not yet paid my College second year fee, as we had used it for my father's medical expenses, leaving my education and future at stake. My relatives have refused to render help of any sort and are remaining oblivious to all my struggles. For the past 9 months, I have been single handedly doing everything right from completing all the required medical tests and regular checkups for my father, preparing all the legal documents, till getting the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education Committee's approval for the transplantation, which further cost us around 6 lakhs. A medical procedure called Tapping is performed to relieve Ascites (fluid collection in abdomen) in liver disease patients. A single tapping procedure costs ₹25,000. Earlier we used to get it done once a week, but now as my father's liver disease is progressing, the frequency of tapping is increasing to twice weekly.
I am very much physically drained out. My studies has gone haywire as it has been months since I attended college regularly. My mother is also old and emotionally broken. All our savings are dwindling day by day. My father is my family's sole pillar of support and I am in dire need to save his life for my future and well being.
