Versha Aunty has been running a tea stall near Lodhi Gardens for more than 20 years and has become an institution of sorts in the area. Her stall has been a refuge for countless souls that she’s fed almost daily over the last two decades.
The pandemic has been financially devastating for small, independent set ups like hers. Since March 2020, it has been impossible for her to earn a living. The stall has remained closed for months during lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Even when the lockdown was lifted, she was not able to make ends meet with empty offices, transportation restrictions and the general anxiety around eating outside during the pandemic. This time has overlapped with a major emergency in her family - the costs of which have been immense, and things have now reached a stage where she may have to sell her house - which she could afford after a very long and difficult 20+ years of hard work. She has already sold her family's vehicle and every other asset she could.
We are trying to step in as a community and help her avoid this final desperate step. Any amount you can donate will go a long way in preventing the uprooting of another life in this pandemic.
