At least once in your life, you must have encountered a Dadaji or Dadiji wandering around the street. I am sure most of us turn a blind eye on them.
Why is it Needed?
Those who need us most are those we turn away.
There are around 1 Crore 80 lakh homeless elderly persons in India as per the data of Longitudinal Ageing Survey of India 2020. With only 728 Old-Age homes across India, there is an acute shortage of shelters for them. Also a Research conducted by Tata Trusts estimated that the total capacity across senior living facilities is currently around 97,000 beds. The study indicates that the need for senior living may rise to around 8 to 10 lakh beds in the next 10 years, which is an 8 to 10 fold increase.
There is an important need for senior citizens to be empowered and their contribution needs to be endorsed at all levels be it the family, society, and the nation at large. As a society, we have failed to give them the respect they earned by nurturing this society we live in.
Hi I am Joshita Vyas, a working professional who has always been busy in my own things like most of us and turned a blind eye on such social evils. An incident in our neighbourhood where a son abandoned his own mother and considered her a problem in his life made us realise that we need to be more compassionate and work towards a society where respect is giving to those who deserve it. I and my friends have started this initiative of building an Old Age home which we call ‘Vanasthali’.
Vanasthali is trying to make a small change with your support as an Old-Age home in a peaceful environment of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and giving these abandoned senior citizens the dignity and self-respect they deserve. Giving them a place which they call home, a place where they feel encouraged and lively. With your support proper food, shelter, and medical facilities will be provided to them for free.
The Old Age Home will be a 20 bed facility with basic amenities. Free healthy and nutritious food will be provided for the elders considering their health. Medical facilities and medicines will be given after regular checkups. A vehicle has already been donated to us for times of emergency. So far we have managed to arrange INR 5L till now from family & friends but the cost is coming up to be much higher and we need your support in making this happen.
Your support can make an enormous change in their lives. Come, let's be responsible and donate for their dignity.
