Story

In the two years of the ongoing Pandemic, the struggle has been real for ensuring the safety of children in our residential care homes and the second in providing for education by online means. In the 6 Loreto Rainbow Homes in Kolkata, while every measure was taken for the former, as a priority, adapting to the digital scenario has been something of a revolution. The Indian Schools and the students at large aren’t used to smart screens as a learning tool. Mobiles phones, Laptops and PC served only as means for entertainment and games. But with the pandemic education became online! For which
  1. Classes began online
  2. In the homes, children now shared the gadgets (7 – 8 children per gadget)
  3. The education teams struggled to ensure a speedy Internet facility and allot screen time for children so that all have access to the limited gadgets the teachers and staff have.
  4. Providing for enough gadgets in a strength of 90 students per home.
Since the schools in Kolkata have still not opened All our classes are being conducted online and we are borrowing the internet facilities of the school premises to continue the classes online. Thus we are launching this online campaign to seek your support by which we can provide:

YOU CAN HELP US BY DONATING FOR-
  1. Tablets costing 10000 INR each (so that it helps a minimum of 5 students at a time in a study group)
  2. Internet data subscription of an annual charge of around 6000 - 7000 INR. (ensuring ample speed bandwidth to support WiFi access to around 100 capacity students and staff included)

Loreto Rainbow Homes run 6 residential care homes providing comprehensive care to girls in the city of Kolkata. These girls have faced extreme vulnerabilities on and off the street situations, poor living in slums, abuse and an escape from child labour. The carers – the home mothers and sisters give a homely environment to these girls ensuring shelter, care and protection in consent with their guardians in the Loreto School premises.
