We lost Satyam Jha, a beloved member of our community, recently. A kindred soul, Satyam was always eager to help others and use the platform he was provided with to create awareness about the plight of the poor and foster the spirit of charity and empathy. In our efforts to memorialize him, we (his friends, students of St Stephen's College) have set up a fundraiser in collaboration with Calcutta Rescue to provide foodgrains to those who need support, to those who Satyam would have loved to help. Please help us to honor his ideals and beliefs.
This fundraiser aims to help underprivileged children and families residing in and around the slums of Kolkata by providing them ration for an entire month. A month's diet for a family of 5 costs Rs 512 which includes 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of flour, 500g of soyabean, 1l of cooking oil, 500g of sattu, 1 kg of pulses, and 500 g of suji. These families reside in and around the slums of Kolkata and live in pathetic conditions. Most of them have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic and have no means of income.
Calcutta Rescue is a non-profit organization that was established in 1979 to treat the needy and poor living on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata, as well as other parts of rural West Bengal. It was started under the West Bengal Societies Act, 1961. Today, Calcutta Rescue is a registered NGO with more than 200 staff members including teachers, doctors, and other professionals. The organization provides free access to education, ration facilities, and health checkups among other benefits to people belonging to underprivileged sections of society. Calcutta Rescue currently supports the subsistence of 650 children as well as their families, supplying them with dry ration packets every month which include rice, pulses, soybean, and other ingredients required for a nourishing diet.
We would be grateful for your support! Help us help the underprivileged, and help us honor our dear friend! No amount is small, anything you donate will make a difference. If you can't donate, please amplify this!
