Story

Center for Social Security Action and Research (CSSAR) was born on 11th March 2008 out of a belief in a society where every child gets the proper education irrespective of social and financial background. We have been educating underprivileged children in Delhi & Gurgaon since its inception.

CSSAR aims at strengthening urban poor communities, especially the slum dwellers to participate in the development process for claiming their rights. Our target children are from poor urban communities or from villages and are studying in local Govt. schools in classes I to X. Many of them are migrant daily wagers and belong to socially marginalized communities.

At CSSAR, classes are conducted in slums and villages after school hours i.e., from 2 pm to 7 pm. Our success criteria are reading, writing, and understanding of the subject matter of a class in which the children study. The duration of a class is one hour and the teacher-student ratio is maintained to 1:15. Quarterly individual progress of a child is also monitored. Due to this program, children are regular in schools and they do not drop out. They understand subjects better and are able to handle class assignments properly.

Here are our past activities and achievements prior to the Covid-19 outbreak in India:

Prior to lockdown, we have been educating 800 underprivileged children yearly by providing them remedial education and school stationeries in Delhi, Haryana, UP, and Bihar. Our program aims at strengthening urban poor communities, especially the slum dwellers to participate in the development process for claiming their rights. Our target children are from poor urban communities or from villages and are studying in local Govt. schools in classes I to X. Many of their parents are migrant daily wagers and belong to a socially marginalized community. Classes are conducted after school hours (2pm-7pm) and the teacher-student ratio remains 1:15 per class. Due to this program, teachers pay individual attention to the students to have a better understanding of the subject. Students who used to drop out of the schools because of unsatisfactory teaching methods or lack of finances to
afford a tutor are regularly attending school these days owing to the remedial classes conducted by CSSAR.

So far, we have educated 5616 underprivileged children. 123 of them have cleared the 10th board exam successfully.
So far 12 children have received the Medhavi Scholarship. Among them, two are awarded for two consecutive years. Medhavi Scholarship is given to those children who score very well in inter-school competitions conducted by the education dept. of Delhi govt.
Prior to lockdown, we have also distributed sanitary pads to our adolescent girl children on monthly basis.
Students who have passed from CSSAR are now working on various fields successfully.
