What’s the problem?
India, as a society, is plagued by the problem of gender bias against women, putting 50% of the entire population at a disadvantage. It starts at birth with a preference for a boy child and continues throughout their lives; The Indian Society often considers the girl child ‘the property of the husband’ making any investment into her education and development redundant.

Why are we talking about this now?
The ongoing pandemic has aggravated this problem. As India underwent lockdown, educational institutions were forced to take the curriculum online, now making a laptop and a stable internet connection a necessity. Here’s why that’s a problem - with the pandemic, economic activity has significantly reduced. Lakhs of daily wage workers have lost their livelihood and domestic workers have been fired from their jobs, worsening their financial conditions and making the girls' education the largest collateral damage.

A considerable number of universities have made the decision to go ahead with online exams. Writing these exam is integral to the completion of their degrees. Students of Delhi University report having gone home for mid semester break without their study material, being left to scramble to find their books online and read on their smartphones. A staggering 75% of the students reported only having access to a smartphone to study, posing a health hazard.

That's why we've put together Shiksha Uninterrupted. A movement aimed at providing support to the underprivileged girls impacted by the outbreak.

What do we plan to do about it?
We’ve put together digital kits consisting of a laptop/tablet/PC and an internet connection for the next 6 months with enough data to support their day to day educational needs. We plan to tie up with various social service units in colleges to identify girls who could benefit from our initiative.  To fund these kits, we’re looking to raise funds through a fundraiser on Milaap and also encourage people to sponsor a kit by donating their old laptop/ tablet/ PC. To overcome the learning curve, we're also planning to conduct mentorship session to equip them with the required knowledge to access their study material, give their exams and leverage technology for their benefit.

Digital Kits:
Kit 1:Rs. 11,200  (Laptop/ Desktop Rs.10,000 + 6 month 4G recharge Rs.1200; for high school and college students)
Kit 2: Rs. 6700 (Tablet Rs. 5500 +6 month 4G recharge Rs. 1200; for elementary and middle school students)
