During the COVID-19 outbreak, I decided to strive for change. I aim to raise funds for a social organization called “ThinkSharp Foundation”, as they work towards providing quality education for children who are unable to focus on their personal and academic growth due to circumstances of the pandemic.
Based in Maharashtra, the organization exists upon a platform to improve the quality of education among rural government schools, in India, by offering educational infrastructure and resources. The importance of education is often disregarded among rural communities, as children unfortunately lack the opportunity to effectively access and utilize educational resources. And that is the problem ThinkSharp aims to fix!
Amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic, certain individuals have been left in the dark. Virtually everything has been lost. Families have been split apart from each other; Employees have lost their jobs; Economies have dropped downwards; However, there are also individuals out there that are not accounted and insured for during these unprecedented times: children of rural India. India, as a nation, has faced one of the harshest lockdown schemes in terms of a global perspective. Although a majority of students have had the fortunate opportunity to carry on their education through an online interface, children among rural communities didn’t get the same chance. Thus, ThinkSharp aims to shorten the gap between the access to quality education, and give everyone the chance they deserve!
In today’s day and age, education has transitioned into an online interface, as this happens to be the only viable option to keep everyone safe. However, the lack of a strong foundation and inadequate investments has made this an impossibility for government schools in rural areas. Children amongst these rural areas don't have access to devices that engage the online education platform. Moreover, if administrators decide to open up schools, this puts the student and faculty’s health at risk due to the concurrent virus outbreak. ThinkSharp aims to provide a safe, suitable, and cohesive network to which children will be able to interact and learn as growing individuals.
ThinkSharp Foundation’s target is to bring 75 tablets to children in rural Maharashtra. These tablets will allow them to connect with their respected teachers, attend online seminars, and digitally access a library of 1200 books to read alongside with alternate educational apps. We, as a team, believe it is necessary for children to have this chance, as they too should have the resources and opportunities to craft a successful future. We must act quick upon this situation, as students in the village are losing hope and are on the verge of abandoning their education.
