“Since the day our baby was born, all he has known is just pain and suffering. He is only 9-month-old and in this tender age he has been admitted to the hospital for what seems like innumerable times to us. He hasn’t been able to sleep for nights together due to the intolerable itching all over his body. He doesn’t feed properly and sometimes the little that he has, he throws that up as well. Despite taking medicines and undergoing a surgery, my baby isn’t getting any better. The doctor have now told us that only a liver transplant can now save my son but I don’t know if I will be able to afford it.” - Vijayakumar, father.

Vijay and his wife, Rashmi were excited about the pregnancy - they were looking forward to a new life full of happy experiences. Never in their wildest dreams did they know that their son would be fighting such a severe liver problem. The young parents have done everything in their capacity until now to cure their baby. Tribhuvan underwent Kasai procedure, a surgical treatment performed on infants whose bile ducts are blocked. The bile produced in their liver doesn’t reach the intestines and as a result, the digestion process is interrupted. This surgery helps in preventing liver damage. But this surgery didn’t put little Tribhuvan anywhere near recovery. Now the parents are pinning all their hope on the liver transplant.

“I have lost count of how many times we have taken him to the hospital. Every time we took him with the hope that this would be his last visit but life has been so unfair with my little baby. At a time when he should be learning new things, he is lying down in bed and crying out in pain - unable to sleep, eat or do anything that children of his age do.” 

The parents are desperately trying to afford the life-saving transplant for their baby but the costs are coming in their way

The severity of Tribhuvan’s condition can only be cured with an urgent liver transplant but with Vijay’s meagre income it is next to impossible for the family to afford it. They do not have a matching donor and are going forward with a cadaveric transplant.
 

“He doesn’t like to be left alone in the bed these days. He is weak and tired and always wants either Rashmi or me to be around him. Every week when it’s time to take him to the hospital, he senses it and starts wailing out. The sight is so painful for us to see. He needs the liver transplant at the earliest but I don’t know if I can afford it.”
