Tribals live in remote tribal hamlets surrounded by the hills, thick forests, water bodies, cliffs, wild animals. This is their natural habitation. Illiteracy, rugged terrain, malnutrition, lack of access to drinking water, prevalence of poverty, lack of personal hygiene & sanitation make them vulnerable to diseases.
Fuelling up the existing handicaps is the tribals’ lack of awareness’ on health issues, medical facilities logistically faraway, lack of emergency transportation, lack of commutable roads.
Malnutrition, is the most common health problem among the tribals. They also suffer from communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria. Some tribal groups are also at high risk for sickle cell anemia. Generally tribal diets are seen to be deficient in protein, iron, iodine, and vitamins.
